In the first scenario, the one member who consistently fails to complete his duties must be consulted to identify and address the issue. It’s not good to consume him in the group, so I would consult him either at his home or on our way home because it is indicated that he is a neighbor. The issue has to be approached gently to understand the problem and find solutions rather than reprimanding or condemning him. I would demonstrate how the failure affects the group as a whole and how I could help without judging if I could understand his challenge. As the group leader, it is essential to assure him that it is okay to ask for help and that with the right kind of help, the issue can be and has to be addressed (Root, n.d.). Nonverbal cues such as facial expressions and a show of concern are essential in persuading the individual to acknowledge the issue and accept help.
Non-verbal cues influence the scenario by showing a genuine interest in progress and success rather than the shortcoming of the character. The individual may know that he is failing the grp, and his self-esteem has been affected (Keyton, 2016). Positive body language helps address the situation without further hurting him or making him feel like a failure. It asserts the values of being a team and prevents further conflict. When the scenario occurs in a computer-mediated environment, it is advisable to personally contact the individual and discuss it privately without involving the whole group (Harris, & Sherblom, 2018). Effective conflict resolution in teams requires being sensitive to the role and position of everyone in the group. It also demands treating everyone with respect and dignity. As such, however much any member seems to have failed, the problem should be approached with compassion because everyone has a story.
