Understanding the healthcare system is essential when implementing an EBP for different reasons. First, it helps understand the resources required to effectively implement EBP. Resources, such as human resources and capital, are essential in EBP implementation (Kueny et al., 2015). In this case, human resources include doctors, nurses, and other medical practitioners. The identification of resources required helps plan and implement the EBP seamlessly, resulting in success.

Secondly, a proper understanding of the organizational culture should be done. Organizations have different structures and cultures, which could result in the success or failure of the EBP (Li et al., 2018). Organizational culture involves the norms within the organization and the traditions of individuals living within the organization. Understanding the organization's culture and structure determines the management's readiness and the organization for the implementation of the EBP. Rigid organizational cultures that are unopen to change increases the chances of failure of the EBP while flexible organizational culture makes it easy to implement an EBP (Bonham et al., 2014). A proper culture improves the relationship and cooperation between stakeholders, resulting in the success of the EBP implementation.

Additionally, understanding the position taken by the organization’s leaders is essential when implementing an EBP. Often, the willingness of the organizational leaders when implementing an EBP smoothens the EBP implantation process. For example, if leaders within an organization are willing to implement EBP, essential resources, such as capital and support, like employees' training. This makes it essential to understand the management's willingness to implement EBP; if the management is in support, the EBP implementation is successful, while lack of support may make the implementation failure.

In my change project, I would consider involving prison inmates to implement an EBP to reduce the spread of tuberculosis in male correctional facilities. Tuberculosis is a major concern in men correctional facilities in the USA. The solution to reducing the spread of TB is involving prison management and the inmates themselves. Involving the inmates can be done by educating them on the benefits of hygiene, which would reduce the spread of tuberculosis. Involving the inmates in the change process increases their collaboration with the health department, resulting in positive health outcomes.
