Communication is one of the most important activities in any organization. Relationships always grow out of communication while at the same time the functioning and the survival of any company are influenced by the relationship between person and groups. However, with increased globalization and cultural diversity, communication is increasingly becoming challenging, especially between people of different cultures. Cultural differences can cause a lot of misunderstanding, leading to communication breakdown ( Deresky, 2014) . As a result, it is important for an organization to keep the cultural profile of its employees to avoid cases of communication breakdown that can be costly.
Cultural profile generally refers to characteristics of an entity or an individual that is determined by his or her own culture. With increased cultural diversity in workplaces, many organizations always keep the cultural profile of their employees to avoid intercultural conflict ( Deresky, 2014) . At the same time, a cultural profile of persons is essential in preventing communication breakdown. There are a number of factors that can lead to communication breakdown and cultural difference is one of them, which explains the importance of maintaining a cultural profile of employees. Therefore, one of the main reasons why having the cultural profile helps in avoiding communication breakdown is because it significantly reduces misunderstanding during communication. Culture influence the way people think, observe, hear, and interpret the information they receive. It is even possible for the same word to have different meanings for the people speaking the same language, especially come from different cultures ( Gallant, 2013 ) . Hence, by having the cultural profile of employees, an organization is likely to reduce communication breakdown by eliminating misunderstanding that emanates from cultural difference.

Secondly, having a cultural profile is essential in avoiding communication breakdown because it addresses behavioral constraints. Almost every culture has certain rules that guide how people should behave, which ends up affecting verbal and non-verbal communication ( Deresky, 2014) . As a result, marinating the cultural profile of employees can help in predicting the verbal and non-verbal communication behaviors of people from different cultures. An organization can avoid communication breakdown when it can address issues related to behavior constraints that influence both verbal and non-verbal communication. Nevertheless, this is only possible when an organization has a cultural profile of its employees.
In addition, according to Deresky (2014) , a cultural profile can assist in addressing emotional constraints. There are some cultures that get emotional when debating controversial issues while others are composed or keep their emotion hidden. Hence, a cultural profile can help in avoiding emotional conflict when communication, preventing a breakdown in communication. Therefore, having a cultural profile of employees can assist in avoiding communication breakdown in the situation because it will enhance the cultural competence of the managing director based in India.
In order to overcome intercultural impasses and obtain a mutually accepted contract, as the managing directors will choose the appropriate means of communication. I will rely on a phone conversation and videoconference to communicate with a Chinese official. A phone conversation is important in this situation because it will make us psychologically close, which may enhance understanding. Videoconferencing, on the other hand, will help in incorporating visual cues while communicating, leading to more social presence. Besides, I will strive to base my communication with Chinese on mutual respect ( Gudykunst, 2003) . Importantly, mutual respect for cultures will help in reducing cultural impasse.
Therefore, culture plays important role in communication because it influence have people think, react, and interpret whatever is going around them. Culture also influences behaviors and emotional behaviors of different people. Consequently, a cultural profile is essential in avoiding communication breakdown. Hence, cultural competence is important, especially in cross-cultural communication and interaction.
