I have always been intrigued by what it exactly means to be human. In particular, I have always wanted to know why we have different cultures around the world, and consequently, various forms of expression. Therefore, some of my learning goals for this course include, understanding the various forms of expressions across different cultures, how they have and are evolving, and the significance of these expressions to the specific cultures, as well as to all societies. These learning goals are relevant to my major, work, and personal life because I am always interacting with people from diverse cultures, and I am convinced that if I understand these forms of expressions, I will understand people better.
I love paintings of natural features. I have always revered artists who spend time outdoors drawing and painting landscapes, hills and valleys, flowers and water bodies. This kind of art usually has a therapeutic effect on me, especially because I love nature. I love classical music, mostly because artists use authentic music instruments like the guitar and piano. I have also been to several live musical performances; I am always thrilled by the sound of the guitar.

According to Sporre (2013), humanities seek to express humankind’s subjective experiences of reality. I also believe humanities seek to understand how various cultures express themselves through various forms such as art, film, music, and architecture. Humanities also encompass disciplines such as philosophy and sometimes history in order to understand how various people think and record their experiences.
Conclusively, I believe the study of humanities will help me understand how different cultures express themselves and how they perceive life. Sometimes lack of this crucial information can lead to stereotypes, and as a result biases. Having adequate knowledge about diverse cultures will enable me to interact and collaborate with people positively both at work and in my personal life.
