Part I: U.S Counter-terrorism Policies

In my opinion, it is possible that the U.S counter-terrorism policies and efforts have contributed to the negative impacts on the individual rights and liberties of law-abiding citizens; such consequences are however unintended. In the process of denying terrorist access to some things including among others, transport; the policies that the US adopts may hamper the free movement of individual law-abiding citizens while causing great inconvenience to others. To deny terrorist the freedom to communicate with each other freely, the policies of the US government may also affect the freedom of law-abiding citizens, but only as an unintended consequence of vigilance and security operations.

Part II: U.N Recommendations (Uniting Against Terrorism)

Among the recommendations made by the UN policy document on Uniting Against Terrorism, in (Secretary-General United Nations, 2006), is that nations need to defend human rights in the context of terrorism and counter-terrorism. To that effect, the policy statement calls for states never to sacrifice their values and lower their standards in the fight against terrorism. For many nations, there is the challenge of living up to this call due to among other things the dilemma of treating terrorists and suspected terrorists with leniency (and according to international humanitarian laws) while such terrorists pay little regard to the same laws. There is also the challenge of needing to make an example of terrorists while at the same time respecting the human rights that they are guaranteed by the UN Charter (Secretary-General United Nations, 2006) .

Part III: Terrorism Event Research Project

For the terrorism event research project, the event under consideration is the Sinai roadside bombing in the Sinai area of Egypt which took place on February 3, 2018, and which claimed the lives of two security forces, the Associated Press (2018) notes. The security and counter-terrorism measures under contemplation, therefore, include intensifying the cooperation between patrol forces and security teams in the areas. Further, preliminary force protection would call for the carrying out of regular sweeps for explosive-manufacturing operations in the area.
