Through this class, I have been introduced to various aspects of healthcare. I credit the class with the advanced knowledge and competencies that I have acquired and I am convinced that the lessons that I have gathered will play a critical role in my practice. I find that this course has transformed me as a person. Before undertaking the course, I had no clear understanding of the important role that nursing plays in the delivery of medical services. I felt that nurses simply serve assistive functions and that without their involvement, the healthcare system would continue to function. Now, thanks to this course, I am able to appreciate the dedication that nurses demonstrate in their delivery of care. The course has also allowed me to recognize that healthcare is not merely concerned with restoring human health. As practitioners were are also required to attend to the emotional and spiritual needs of our patients. We need to assure our patients that even when their health is poor and they are on the verge of death, we will take all necessary steps to relieve them of their suffering. Professionally, the course has equipped me with practical and technical skills that I intend to leverage in my interactions with patients.
During my engagement with the course, there are various issues that have left me surprised. The one that surprised me the most is the fact that despite the effort that they dedicate to their jobs, nurses and other healthcare practitioners are not fully appreciated or rewarded. They work for long hours and are forced to contend with patients who are difficult to deal with. One would expect that in reward for this level of dedication, the nurses would be compensated fairly. Unfortunately, as the course has revealed, this is not the case. The pay that they receive is unjustifiably low and it is unacceptable that stakeholders do not seem interested in safeguarding the interests and welfare of nursing practitioners.

I found that all the concepts and subjects covered in the class are indeed critical. However, the main lesson that I would like for my colleagues to learn concerns the importance of technology in healthcare. The course has made it clear that thanks to technology, there have been drastic improvements in the quality of care. Furthermore, we are able to deliver safer care at lower costs. I believe that when they acquire an advanced understanding of the impact of technology, my colleagues will be charged to lead their institutions in embracing modern technology.
