From Uriah the Hittite to Bathsheba, his wife in the tenth year of David's reign, the son of Jesse, the first among warriors, the anointed king of Israel.
My darling wife,
I am writing you this letter hoping that it finds you well. I hope all has been well with you. As for me, all has been well although I miss you so much.
Delegate your assignment to our experts and they will do the rest.
On Tuesday the 23rd, we had a grand parade with other shoulders, and our leader presented us with a beautiful award for always doing a good job when we go out to war. He also told us that King David is well pleased with our work, and he is proud of us. According to the king, I was one of the many soldiers that were pointed out as the best. He even invited me to the palace, we ate and made merry. “ At David’s invitation, he ate and drank with him, and David made him drunk. But in the evening Uriah went out to sleep on his mat among his master’s servants; he did not go home” (2 nd Samuel 11:13) . I am proud of myself, and I hope you will be proud of me.
My dear wife, I want to tell you that I have been selected to go into a battle against Rabbah under Joab's command. “ In it he wrote, Put Uriah out in front where the fighting is fiercest. Then withdraw from him so he will be struck down and die” ( 2 nd Samuel 11:15). Since the king believes I am among the best soldiers, Joab tells me that I will be among the soldiers in the front line as he believes I will not let him down during the battle as he believes in my skills and ability in winning the battle. Although I am feeling a bit uneasy with this task, I pray that all will go well.
I request you to keep me in your prayers as this is not an easy task, my love. Your prayers have been holding me on the battlefield. I am also assured of your love, and each time I think of you, I become more motivated to fight harder so that I can win the battle and come back home to you, my love. I am holding on to the best memories that we have created together, and as I go out to the battlefield, the memories will keep me going as I will be looking forward to creating more with you. I will ensure to give this tough war my all to win and come back home a winner.
I would like to inform you that this battle against Rabbah is one of the hottest battles. I trust in the Lord that we will win this battle because it will mean a lot to us. When I am done here, I will come straight home. I still remember our plans for having a baby before the end of this year; I hope you have not changed your mind because I desire to be called a dad. I know we will have a gorgeous baby, and I pray to God that he can bless us with twins. My love, I know that you are going to be a wonderful mother to our children, and I can't wait for this to come true.
My lovely wife, you know I trust you, and I believe no matter the distance between us, you are still faithful to me, and I know you can never betray me no matter what. I also hold on to our vows, my eyes are only for you, and that is why I always miss you each passing day but I have to be at work to earn a living for us both. “ But Uriah slept at the entrance to the palace with all his master’s servants and did not go down to his house” (2 nd Samuel 11:9).
The money in this envelope, please buy yourself anything that you need also ensure to pay for all the pending bills. I do not want you to be stressed over anything. When I come, we will go for a holiday as I had promised you to spend some quality time together and bond more as we discuss our plans.
My dear wife, please never forget how much I love you, and I will always do. I consider you the best thing that has ever happened in my life, and I always thank the Lord for you. If anything happens on the battlefield and I don't make it back home, please do not mourn so much for me. Be courageous enough and move on with your life. Don't hold on to me so much that you forget to love yourself. After all, we have created many beautiful memories together that I hold so dearly. You are a beautiful woman, and spending all your time mourning me would make you weary. Even if I don't make it back home alive, I will have died a warrior as I would be fighting for my country. Never forget that. “ When Uriah’s wife heard that her husband was dead, she mourned for him. After the time of mourning was over, David had her brought to his house, and she became his wife and bore him a son” (2 nd Samuel 11:26-27).
My love, I send you a thousand Kisses and hugs. I hope to see you soon.
Never forget that I love you so much.
Your loving husband,
Uriah the Hittite
