Wind and solar power are the most common forms of wave energy to have taken off in the last few decades. The costs of the energies have reduced significantly with the increasing need for a change due to the climatic changes taking place. Studies have concluded that tidal power can contribute to huge amounts of energy in the long run.

Some of the advantages of tidal energy are the green abilities of the wave energy since it does not harness harmful gases. The tidal energy is also renewable like many other green sources. It is also a constant source of energy that is not likely to go out of supply for several billion years (Cruz, 2008)

The cons of this energy source are the environmental effects such as the power farms that are usually a cause of conflict regarding tourism and lack of acceptance. As a result of the installations on the shore, for example, there are restrictions regarding the size and location. The cost of installation especially in the early development stages makes the resources, connections and the lifespan of the technology some of the factors that cause the costs to be extremely high. The uncertainty of the amount to be used over the lifetime of the power machines are also a cause for the uncertainty of costs.

The most emerging forms of technology in energy, such as wave and tidal are currently costly, even more, that the already existing forms of technology. The case has caused most people to be hesitant to shift to these new forms. However, with increased levels of technology, increased funding and a proactive public support, the costs of these wave and tidal technologies will eventually decrease in price.
