Advanced pathophysiology is an area of study in clinical practice that deals with the development of clinical assessment skills in advanced patient care (Fitzpatrick & Kazer, 2009). A thorough understanding of the pathophysiology is of much significance to nurses' support in the advent of clinical decisions involved in diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic presentations. According to Athabasca University (2017), in the nursing practice, it is of fundamental gain for nurses to have an understanding of the treatment plan and stages of a given disease.

However, in the process, weaknesses do exist in advanced pathophysiology such as genetic disorders, non-inflammatory response, and bacterial skin infections. Inflammation is the natural response to harmful stimuli by the immune system and is instrumental to the healing process. It occurs due to changes in the vascular permeability, accumulation, and recruitment of leukocyte and the release of the inflammatory mediator (Chen, Deng, Cui, Fang, Zuo, Deng & Zhao, 2018). It is equally quite a challenge for nurses to define the pathophysiology of a genetic disease because of cellular dysfunction or tissue mechanisms.
