In previous years, creating a website was a daunting and complicated process. This is no longer the case since there are many tools for creating websites. These tools have made it possible for individuals with no experience to create websites that are easy to navigate. While the high number of website and blog creation tools provides individuals with variety, it also introduces some problems. One of these problems is that it is difficult to select the best tool. Before selecting the tool, one needs to critically evaluate the available alternatives and identify the one that best suits their needs.
Wix.com, blogger.com and wordpress.com are among the websites that enable individuals to create blogs and websites. The main goal of all these tools is to provide users with a simple resource for creating blogs and websites. For example, wordpress.com aims to enable its users to “publish anything, anywhere” (“Wordpress.com”, n.d). On the other hand, providing users with a platform to “publish your passions, your way” is the primary goal of blogger.com (“Blogger”, n.d). On its homepage, wix.com states its mission as facilitating the efforts of users to “create the website you want” (“Wix”, n.d). The stated missions of the three stools indicate that they are all designed for the creation of blogs and websites.

An effective website is one that allows users to communicate effectively. Blogger.com has established a community (+Blogger) through which users can connect. Overall, this platform for connection is effective because it allows users to connect with the general public. For example, one may publish a post that is then broadcast to the public. Wix.com has also developed platforms for connection. Wix Blog, Wix Stories and Wix Arena are among these platforms. In addition to these connection methods, wix.com also allows users to connect on such social media platforms as Twitter, Facebook and Google Plus. The effectiveness of the connection avenues that wix.com has developed lies in variety and choice. Users are able to select platforms that suit their needs. Wordpress.com has not neglected networking and connections. Through such community platforms as WordCamps and WordPress.org, uses are able to engage with one another and the wider public.
Each of the three tools described above possesses certain features that allow them to appeal to users. The support for website and blog creation and custom domains are the key pros of wordpress.com. Moreover, this tool caters to the needs of users with different budgets. It even has an option for those who do not wish to spend any amount. Tailored design, a free domain and the ability to monetize one’s content are among the numerous advantages that blogger.com has. This tool also offers an analytics feature through which users are able to gain insights into the behaviors of those who consume their content. Wix.com is perhaps the most feature-packed of the three tools. In addition to the features that the other tools possess, wix.com is mobile friendly, comes with an online store and includes an editor that facilitates content creation.
While the three tools possess many pros, there are certain drawbacks which could discourage users. The main flaw of blogger is that users do not own the service. Instead, Google, the tools’ owner maintains overall control. While users are able to determine the type of content to publish, Google may shutdown a blog if it establishes that it violates its policy. The key drawback of wordpress.com is that users are responsible for the security of their content and blogs. The fact that most of its plans are rather costly is the major disadvantage of wix.com. It is true that this tool has a free option. However, this option has limited features. To exploit all the features, users are required to pay $24.50 per month (“Premium Plans”, n.d). This is simply too expensive given that there are other feature-packed alternatives that cost less. These cons hamper the effectiveness of the three sites. However, overall, the sites are effective and ideal for those who wish to publish their content online.
Blogger.com, wordpress.com, and wix.com were designed for different users. The first two seem targeted at those wishing to create content casually. For example, amateur writers and photographers would find the options that blogger.com and wordpress.com offer to be sufficient. However, firms and individuals with more complex needs should use wix.com. This is because this site offers a wider array of features that would meet the needs of companies and individuals. The design of these sites also indicates that are intended for different audiences. Given their simple layouts, blogger.com and wordpress.com are ideal for the general public. On the other hand, since it is rather complex, wix.com is perfect for professionals. Offered the opportunity to redesign the platforms, I would place less focus on advertisements. Recently, the European Union passed laws which prohibit websites and technology companies from using user data for marketing purposes without obtaining consent (“Guide to the General”, n.d). In keeping with these laws, I would ensure that the three sites do not feed users annoying ads. Whereas it is true that all the sites are effective, I would recommend wix.com. This recommendation is based on the fact that it comes with more features.
