Wellness Exam

Wellness exam refers to periodic health checkups to check for possible diseases or medical complications. The health checkups are performed by healthcare professionals in their offices, healthcare centers or hospitals, as required by the American Medical Association (Barrell, 2019). Healthcare professionals are required by AMA to first enquire about a medical history of their client before moving on to perform a physical exam. The physical exam starts with determining a client’s height and weight measurements, followed by an examination of the nose, mouth, throat and ear (Barrell, 2019). The healthcare professional then examines the neck, groin and feet to determine the pulse. The next examination is on the body’s reflexes, using a stethoscope to listen to the heart and lungs and measuring the blood pressure. Finally, the healthcare professional determines the lymph nodes in the neck and underarms, then checks for any abdomen abnormalities.

Heart Palpitations

Heart palpitations is a heart condition where one feels as if the heart has skipped a beat or is beating faster than normal (Pietrangelo, 2017). Heart palpitations may also be felt in the neck, throat or chest. In most cases heart palpitations may resolve by their own; although in some instances medical care might be needed. The main causes of heart palpitations include; heavy exercises, use of nicotine products, prolonged stress and dehydration. It is advisable for persons who have a diagnosed heart problem to seek medical attention when they have heart palpitations. Medical attention is also recommended if the following symptoms accompany the heart palpitations; dizziness, body weakness, fainting, loss of consciousness and difficulty in breathing. However, healthcare professional can carry out physical examination on a person to identify the possibility of heart palpitations and possible causes. In rare conditions, a doctor may refer a client to heart specialist for further examination.
