Personal Ethical Philosophy

My personal ethical statement entails being passionate and doing deeds that are right. I was born into a strict religious family where I was taught about respect and doing good deeds. My parents were stern and they ensured that we not only developed a strong work ethic but also learned to respect others and deviate from any wrongdoing. These principles are vital as they foster my relationship and friendship with God and everyone.

What I would do if I had the Second Ring

The ring would help me restore sanity by exposing the crimes committed by the wicked shepherd. Additionally, I would ensure that the first ring is destroyed to avert any further damages propagated by the current king. Concisely, I would use the second ring to ensure there is fairness by bringing the wrongdoer to justice in the kingdom.

What else within this course helps in responding to this fictitious situation or in explaining it?

In addition to resolving the issue elicited by the wicked shepherd using the second ring, I would embrace ethical theories, such as the theory of utilitarianism and the theory of justice that I have learned in this course to ensure that nobody else is harmed, discriminated, or killed. The main principle of the utilitarianism theory advocated by John Stuart Mills supports each action undertaken that increases the happiness of the people (Mulgan, 2014). Moreover, adopting the utilitarianism principles would be effective as the arrest of the Shepherd will guarantee justice by freeing people in the kingdom. The queen’s action will be reconsidered since she collaborated with the shepherd to commit the offenses while under duress.

Similarly, I will seek the guidance of John Rawls’s theory of justice learned in this course to promote fairness. According to Rawls (2009), every person in a society has an equal opportunity and freedom to resources and opportunities without discrimination. On the other hand, the retributive view justifies the action that I will utilize in the fictitious situation to exact punishment against the shepherd. The use of these two theories will help restore the wellbeing of the people in the kingdom.
