Stratification describes the layers, classes, and categories which people are grouped into in society. These groups create inequality in the community, but they enhance order. If all people belonged to the same level or class, then there would be no development in the society. Consider a situation where people in the community were rich. Who would work for them? It would be hard for such a place to grow. However, when some people are rich and others poor, the order is developed in the community. There are people with needs, and they work for the wealthy, and in that way, money circulation is enabled, and society develops.

Consistent equality would not be suitable for the community. At consistent balance, services ate being distributed at the same level, for instance, job opportunities and healthcare services. Inconsistent equality is both helpful and has adverse effects on the economically-challenged people. In cases of public services, for example, poor people suffer as they cannot be able to afford high-quality education, healthcare, and other needs. The wealthy, however, have enough finances to purchase what they require despite the cost. Inconsistent equality is beneficial as it supports the development of society. The rich people provide job opportunities which support the availability of products and resources required in the community.

Stratification can be explained using functionalism and conflict theory. Functionality describes how different parts of society operate. The society is made up of various aspects, which all have a purpose. Each work has a specific value in the community despite how different it is from the rest. Conflict theory describes the high rates of inequality in the society and how it can be reduced to create better chances of people in the community. The wealthy have power over the poor and make a decision, which as the salary to be given, and that leads to alienation and isolation depending on wealth status.
