Racism is an ethnicity problem and is still prevalent in the modern world, where one group of people or race believes it is superior over the other and frequently results to discrimination of people based on their race (Cole et al., 2018). Before discussing racial projects and how they contribute to the creation of hegemony, it’s essential to understand the meaning of the following terms involved in the study of racial projects. Hegemony is the state of leadership, economic dominance, military predominance or control of the country by superior people over the minors. On racial formation, authors Omi and Winant (2014) explain them as the socio-historical procedure through which ethnic groups are formed, acquired, developed and destroyed. The authors describe that the process of racial formation is attained by historically designated projects in which human beings and social organizations are characterized and structured (Feagin & Elias, 2013).

Racial projects are concurrently a clarification, representation of national dynamics forces with significant efforts to recognize and effectively distribute economic resources along specific racial lines which dominate the state at the expense of the less privileged race. Racial projects exist in many forms ranging from political legislation, campaign, government positions, music or even art (Omi & Winant, 2014).

Examples of Racial Projects

For example, in the United States racism in politics is still widely spread, the white’s beliefs they are more superior as to African Americans due to their skin color. Since white people mostly dominate the government, the officials preferably hire white people to assume office duties, leaving a small portion of government jobs to be occupied by African American hence control of government by white people gives them power and dominance over African American. Every moment African Americans tries to implement a bill which may improve the welfare of black people, they usually face stiff rejection from both houses of representative since they are dominated by racist white leaders who think African American should not possess equal powers as the whites (Massey, 2009).

Another example is when the administration policy of a College recognizes that race is still relevant in the community and that racisms do exist between personal level, interactional and institute level. The existence of racism in school has dramatically affected negatively the academic live of African Americans; people of color have been awarded low grades, disciplined inappropriately or even expelled from school by the administration as compared to the white students, whereby the school administration impacts the academic performances positively.
