I think upon visiting the doctor I would be interested in finding out their values and the amount of money they earn from these procedures. Such information is vital to understanding the person who is treating me. As Wen says sometimes one may never know if they are being given the best advice in terms of medical expertise or the motive is to earn more money. At least with knowledge of the amount of money they are earning I may be able to logically reason out the intention behind each option I’m provided with. Also, as a patient I want to put my faith on the caregiver to provide their best service. Therefore, understanding the underlying values behind the reasons they make certain actions. Knowing whether a doctor values prevention to cure provides the mindset at which a doctor may approach a condition and the treatment that will be offered (Wen, 2014).
I do not believe that all doctors have the best interest of their patients at heart and are doing everything to ensure care for their patients. Firstly, the response they gave to Wen’s website displays insecurity that is worth questioning. Why would patients trust someone with their lives, while that person cannot share anything about theirs? (Wen, 2014) I think that many of these doctors may be taking an advantage of their hard earned knowledge to swindle patients and indulge in all the incentives available to them. If they truly did care about their patient’s health they would not display such heights of insecurity regarding their personal lives.

My sociological perspective to this matter revolves around conflict theory. It seems to me that money has become scarce to doctors that they are willing to do anything to get it. They are in competition with one another thus disclosing their personal views may impair their success. It is also, evident in the transformation the medical world has been through. It has come a time when transparency hinders them from doing their job.
