The World Health Organization has been functioning for the last seventy-one years with the main mandate of ensuring that all people globally have access to standard health care. Therefore, the body strives to provide reliable observatory data that helps in judging whether or not the body is making progress towards achieving its vision ( Global Health Observatory (GHO) data, 2018) . That said, health trends around the globe are changing drastically, making the health systems in each nation also evolve. Therefore, reliable data recording by the body is critical in moving with these trends.

The US ranks among the most developed countries around the world; however, the nation has no uniform health system. Given that the US has a population that is spread across all classes of economic status, there is a possibility for health inequality. Therefore, WHO focuses on addressing all components under the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to make sure that any inequality that may arise is addressed appropriately ( Global Health Observatory (GHO) data, 2018) . For instance, Under the environmental risk SDG, which covers three components, namely; air pollution, water, and sanitation, as well as poisoning ( World Health Statistics 2019, 2019)

According to World Health Statistics released in 2019, "Globally in 2016, unsafe drinking-water, unsafe sanitation and lack of hygiene were responsible for nearly 0.9 million deaths, including over 470 000 deaths of children aged under five years from diarrhea" ( World Health Statistics 2019, 2019 p41). Moreover, low-income countries have a higher mortality rate due to environmental risks as opposed to higher-income countries. Such data has been critical in enabling the US government to dedicate finances towards maintaining a healthy environment for the US citizens to live in. WHO advocates that every individual has the right to live in a conducive and clean environment.

On the other hand, data released by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) reveals that California has a record number of over 30% of individuals who are homeless ( U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), 2018) . Likewise, California makes up 12% of the US population ( U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), 2018) . This high number of homeless people has led to the outbreak of ‘Medieval diseases’ such as typhus, typhoid, and tuberculosis in cities like Los Angeles due to increased environmental risks. Thus, the data from WHO and its emphasis towards achieving the SDGs has a great impact on individuals living in Southern California as it influences the US government budgeting towards housing. Consequently, this ensures that the L.A residents have a clean environment for reducing the spread of these diseases.
