Morality includes a set of principles that distinguish between good and bad behavior. Morals also help to differentiate between the right and the wrong thing to do depending on the situation. My thinking about morals has developed since the first week of "pre-philosophical assertions." During this time, my thought about why an individual needed to be moral was because it was valuable for its own sake, meaning that people needed to act morally because they were required to do so. In my estimations, acting morally was only good because it helped in creating a bridge between good and bad people. However, with a proper assessment of philosophical texts, I came to realize that the primary aim of being moral is to satisfy some other end.

People act morally because it comes with specific incentives that make life better. There are several reasons why an individual should act morally, and the first is that without morality, social life is almost impossible. It would be increasingly hard to relate to people if one cannot act in a manner that satisfies the needs of the society. In analyzing the psychological perspective, the reason why people act morally is that they care about how others feel about them. They mind their social censure and reputation. Additionally, the psychological perspective further illustrates that people could be driven to act morally because of their conscience.

Assessing the need to be moral through theological lenses gives individuals an extra obligation to remain in the realms of doing only what is right or good to the society. The religious teachings ask people to act morally because of the questions on after-life and what will happen to their souls and spirits at this particular time. Therefore, the best answer on why an individual should be moral is to satisfy some other end which could be their reputation, conscience, and religious beliefs among others.
