After World War I, Germany was in a desperate state. Not only was the economy bad but also, they were still trying to recover from their humiliating defeat from years earlier. The failure of the Germans in World War 1 led to weak governance among Germany citizens. The country was in dire need of a strong leader. Adolf Hitler appealed to Germans who desired change. In his speeches and writings, he promised the Germans change and better living standards. After Hitler was appointed as the chancellor on January 30, 1933, many believed that he was the savior of Germany and would save the nation. Adolf Hitler was able to rise to power because of the terms of the Treaty of Versailles, the political setup of the Weimar Republic, and the economic conditions of the time.

Between January 1933 and May 1945, Third Reich was a regime of the Nazi Party in Germany. The Third Reich promised to provide full employment to all Germany citizens and restore the economic standards of the country. The Third Reich Created the German Labour Front. Its job was to protect the rights of the workers after the abolition of Trade Unions. The aim was to please the workers and a method of control for the Nazis. It dealt with issues such as working hours and payment. The Labour Front provided employment, ensuring the production of goods to the nation.

Hitler appointed Kurt Schmitt in the Ministry of Economics to replace Hugenberg. Kurt Schmitt was the director-general of the biggest insurance company in Germany. Hitler took this step to avoid quarrels with industrialists and financiers. The Third Reich Endorsed private businesses such as Krupp and Daimler Benz. They were encouraged by the regime to make a profit during rearmament. This made the administration seem to promote industrialization. Rearmament was the bulk of economic growth. Hitler also privatized many industries within Reich. Rearmament ensured that large business was drawn to Nazi and privatizing budgetary stress.

Totalitarianism was introduced with the control of the police and the SS organization. According to Hitler, the Nazi regimentation was to be followed by all schools, universities and the press. Totalitarianism was meant to instill Nazi ideology to the youth. In 1936, during the Olympic Games in Berlin, the Nazi depicted the position of the Jewish community in Germany after allowing only a single Jewish athlete to join the German team. By neglecting the Jews, the Nazi authorities were showing the world that they were against anti-Semitism.

The Nazis also deployed the element of anti-Semitism. Nazi accused the Jews of exploiting working-class, contaminating the German race and conspiring to acquire political power in Germany. As a result, Jews were dismissed from government position and denied public participation. Also, Jews were blocked from entering any professions. Marriage between the Jews and the Germans was also not allowed. Jews were deprived of all rights. In June 1933, Hitler passed the Unemployment Relief Act, which encouraged the formation of the National Labour Service, whose aim was to lower the unemployment rate in Germany. Nazis increased expenditure in public works such as afforestation, land improvement, the building of hospitals, schools and road building. By doing so, Hitler reduced the unemployment rate from six million in January 1933 to about 2.6 in December 1934. This was a remarkable recovery by the Third Reich regime.

Hitler always talked of peace. He also avoided any direct clash with the army, as they were crucial to his reign. After the failure to secure power in Austria on July 25, 1934, Hitler repudiated his followers. He even sent Franz Von Papen, who was his deputy chancellor to Austria, to carry out reconciliation. Eventually, a so-called gentlemen’s agreement was reached.

When coal miners voted in favor of choosing a return to Reich rather than France, Hitler had to resolve the war between France and Germany. On March 16, 1935, Hitler reintroduced conscription. It stipulated that every man aged between 18-25 had to undergo a six months training, do military exercises such as afforestation and digging ditches for farms and receive some pay as well.

The appointment of Hjalmar Schacht to head Reichsbank in 1934 led to cooperation between the banking grid and the Nazi party. As a result, some semi-public financial institutions emerged and began issuing bills that were discounted by the central bank. The Third Reich used these bills to finance public spending by the Reichsbank. Reichsbank was the generating agent of credit to the Reich. Entrepreneurs could also cash on the bills that were discounted by the central bank to pay their workers.

Hitler thought that world war to be necessary for the Germans because it would enable them to acquire resources. Using the concept of Lebensraum “living space,” he was able to expand Germany to the East. Hitler believed that this would strengthen his military and make Germany economically sufficient through food production and the acquisition of raw materials. Also, Hitler thought that by encouraging World War II, he would be able to drive out the Jewish community from Germany. The Nazi authorities had a notion that the Jewish community was threatening the political power of the Germans due to their thriving population. Through world war II, Hitler was able to molest and kill the Jews.

In conclusion, there are many factors, which led Hitler to rise to power. Hitler’s ability to control and take over the poor leadership of the Weimar Republic led to the rise of the Nazi party. By his overwhelming speech, Hitler was able to convince the German public and the media, which made him outstanding among his competitors.
