They were expecting to have to milk and honey, work as well as freedom in the new land yet things that they found were not the best. The most memorable scene was the scenario in which the immigrants left behind the obstacles and scarcity to secure jobs and support their families in America. The most significant aspect to know in this story is that an immigrant would be eliminated if a doctor discovered that the immigrant had contagious illness that would threaten the health of others. Another scenario that would cause denial for entry of an immigrant is if it is found that he could become a public charge or become an illegal contract worker.

Almost similar conditions are felt among non-white immigrants that endeavor to enter the United States. Discrimination is still a common scenario for the people in the United States. Discrimination was also prevalent at the event of Ellis Island as they shifted the immigration policies to be more welcoming to individuals of specific regions, and sideline the other.
