My favorite film is The Age of Innocence where Michelle Pfeiffer looks very fine as she sweeps the staircases while Ellen Olenska who has just arrived from Europe just sits on the sofa. She fled away from her husband on claims that he was a Casanova and a womanizer and she courageously seeks for a divorce but she fears to destroy her reputation because of a letter she wrote that was compromising. Ellen fears nothing but the thought of the scandal in New York going viral tears her nerves and ironically she has to go back even after sleeping with Newland Archer, a hero. Newland was also a great player as he was dating Elena’s dull cousin, May Welland.
May takes advantage of her pregnancy for Newland to kill the hopes of Elena. It is funny in a scene that both Newland and Elena muzzle at each other like cats in the carriage back while Newland slips off one of her gloves. I love this movie with a passion because of the funny things they say to each other. Elena says, ‘you know painters then.' ‘You exist in their milieu' … Newland is desperate to find his happiness as customs requires in his books export business to London and how he rubs his face with one other in the group makes the whole scene lively.

What I love most is the fire close-ups which blazes changes the mood into a frosty one and the operas where they visit looks gorgeous as they use the glasses to look at each other like spies. Newland goes looking for Ellen as he follows her from a distance like a spy by a lighthouse which was at the pier end and beneath the sunset which looked like blood-red. The sailing ship on the shimmering sea is a scene that increases the little light penetrating and this symbolizes hope and a sense of longing. While Newland thinks of going to her and swallows his pride, she doesn't even think of him!
