One controversial subject involves the legalization of prostitution, which necessitates the consideration of reasons why individuals become prostitutes to eradicate the myopic view of the subject. The other factors to consider are the underlying criminality and how prostitutes cope with the hardships and the position of different nations on the subject. The different types of prostitution equally contribute to the debatable argument.

The debate concerning the legalization of prostitution is one that warrants an assessment of reasons women join the act, their experiences, and coping mechanisms. Some people view the subject as morally wrong, while others objectively perceive it as a type of work for adults whereby consenting individuals exchange goods and services (sex) for cash. The two contrasting perceptions are the contributors to this debate. However, it is notable that, in most cases, women engage in prostitution owing to a lack of financial capability to meet their needs and those of family. It shows how poverty is the main contributor to prostitution. The prostitutes face specific hurdles in their work, such as uncooperative customers, the high risk from pimps who run the show, the threat of falling on the wrong side of the law, and susceptibility to risky diseases like HIV/AIDS. Some use devious means to cope while others stick to the law, with a majority factoring protective measures to avoid falling victim to sexually transmitted infections.

Prostitution varies from one country to another, conceptualizing the impact of legalization against criminality. As mentioned earlier, various people view the subject as immoral, whereas others view it merely as commercial work. It is the underlying factor for the differences of prostitution from one country to the other. In some nations, sex work is legal, whereas others prohibit the occupation showing the extreme ends of the variation. For the latter, some countries place clauses in their laws, placing prostitution as a criminal act that is punishable by death. Many jurisdictions condemn the act; however, some consider it legal and unregulated though many of these place regulations on specific acts surrounding the subject as illegal. Apart from the moral question, countries that illegalize prostitution cite the underlying criminal elements such as human trafficking that shroud the business. The regulating group places regulations on various elements such as the prohibition of solicitation with others using legal means like work permits, tolerance zones, and licenses to control involvement.

Indeed, given the difference of legalization from one country to the next, different prostitution types contribute to the debate. One type of prostitution is street whereby clients solicit services in public places, and the delivery occurs in side-streets, short-stay premises, or vehicles. It is the vast type given the little costs of conducting business. The second type involves brothel, whereby a premise is explicitly set-aside for the business. It is relatively vast owing to better security and considerable costs, given most cases see it licensed by authorities. The last type entails escort or private prostitution whereby the former involves clients contacting thee prostitutes, and service delivery issued in the client’s premises. The latter bears deliver with the service delivery in the prostitute’s premise as the difference. The two are relatively costly, given low client turnover from the high costs of services. The different types of prostitution conceptualize the different forms of legalization from one country to the other, which contributes to the debate regarding whether or not to legalize sex work.

The debate of whether or not to legalize prostitution is a controversial case; however, it is noteworthy that poverty facilitates individuals joining the trade with the underlying criminality, making it hard for them to cope. Different types of prostitution conceptualize the differences of legalization from one country to the other. It is a debate that is bound to continue.
