An in-depth analysis of the case study shows several health needs projected by the patient, which ought to be considered as part of promoting positive treatment and achievement of possible success. Firstly, the patient is showing need for health promotion attributed to his medical history, which shows that he is significant for COPD, HTN, hyperlipidemia, and diabetes. When selecting the most appropriate health promotion approach, one of the key areas of consideration is the patient’s medical history, as this would help in providing information on possible conditions that the patient is likely to encounter. In this case, the patient shows a high possibility of COPD, HTN, hyperlipidemia, and diabetes. Secondly, the patient is showing need for preventive care, which would focus more on general health screening and patient education. The reoccurrence of such conditions, as have been indicated in his medical history, suggests that there was a clear lack of patient education.

From the case study, it is clear that the patient is showing symptoms that are compatible with COPD, which can be noted from his shortness of breath that would require oxygen. The treatment regimen that ought to be considered as part of dealing with the patient include the use of medications. The patient may need to take bronchodilator, which is a type of medication that is specifically designed to help open the airways in the lungs to improve on the patient’s ability to breath effective (Rosenthal & Burchum, 2018). In this case, the patient would be expected to take this medication considering that this would help towards increasing his oxygen intake through the lungs. The patient may also take steroids, which are important in seeking to reduce inflammation and improve on tissue growth and repair.

The use of steroids will be seen as a key approach through which to ensure the patient us able to reduce possible inflammation, which results from exposure to the bacterium causing COPD. The expected outcome is that the patient will be in a much better position of having to improve on his health to minimize future exposures to the condition. On the other hand, it is important to note that self-care is also considered as part of the treatment regiment, which would involve improving physical exercise and advancing diaphragmatic breathing. Physical exercises for a period of between 20 and 30 minutes for 5 day per week may help improve on cardiovascular health while diaphragmatic breathing helps improve on lung capacity to accommodate more air (Lunenfeld, Mskhalaya, Zitzmann, Arver, Kalinchenko, Tishova, & Morgentaler, 2015).

The most effective patient education strategy would involve teach-back as one of the ways through which to ensure that the patient understands what is expected of him as part of promoting self-care. Teach-back is a strategy that involves having to engage the patient on a one-on-one basis through which to advance health literacy focusing on the specific health issue in question. By engaging in patient teach-back, the expectation is that the patient will be in a much better position of having to ask any underlying questions that reflect on the health condition in question. Additionally, this will also help in providing the patient with a practical understanding of procedures that he is expected to take as part of advancing self-care for the condition in question. In this case, the use of teach-back as the preferred strategy is of great value towards teaching diaphragmatic breathing, which is one of the key treatment regiments recommended as part of the treatment procedure.
