In the wake of continued enlightenment, women felt the need to have freedom since their place in the society had been by far detrimental. This resulted in what later became the women liberation movement, a women-led movement which later became one of the great movements that lead to a greater time of reawakening and liberation for the women around the world by fighting for the rights of women.
The origin of the feminist liberation movement can be traced around the late 1960s and continued its operations until late 1980s. This happened in the more industrialized Western countries which had greatly inspired the political, intellectual and cultural changes in the world at large.

One of its wings which placed emphasis on radical feminism included women from all races and backgrounds. The philosophy behind it emphasized that women were not to be viewed as second-class beings but they deserved equal representation in the society. To achieve this, they launched academic programs for enlightening women on sociology, politics and their role in society. At this period, the women history began to be written. This included social freedom for women. Gender equality through reduced discrimination of women and respect for human rights through the Civic rights wing, which served to enlighten society against racial discrimination.
In order to enhance women’s freedom and independence, this movement worked on abolishing some laws that limited women’s independence and ability to make decisions. Such include that limited women on reproduction. They also banned men from their movements since they thought they had the independence of making their own decisions rather than what they felt was intrusion into their activities.
It is apparent that the feminist liberation movement served a great purpose in shaping the society’s view of women by championing gender equality, human rights and having a society that has respect for persons. Despite the challenges this liberation faced, the fruits are sweet.
