The present work culture has been greatly influenced by technology. Use of technology in the workplace has made it easy for employees to build a modern workplace culture where employees are empowered to be more independent and creative (Beirne & Ramsay, 2018). Employees have expectations that they expect to be fulfilled by the organization. Most importantly, workers expect the management to connect with them when making decisions that affect them. The workers also expect their employers to provide them with necessary tools that will help promote creativity and innovation. The modern workplace empowers all workers and brings the best out of them ranging from executive team up to the first-line employees.
The modern workplace culture is supported by the recent technological developments that include the invention of Windows 95, wireless fidelity (Wi-Fi), Facebook, and WhatsApp. Windows 95 was invented by Microsoft Company in the year 1995. It was the first full operating system and helped people to interact with computers freely. Its invention has helped transform the way people interact with the computer. As a result, there are a number of computer applications that have been developed thus helping drive innovativeness and creativity in the workplace. The Wi-Fi was invented by John O'Sullivan, Terence Percival, Diethelm Ostry, John Deane, and Graham Daniels in 1999. Wi-Fi has helped define productivity in the workplace. It has become a necessity in everyday work day practices. Employees in the current workplace want to stay connected with one another over the internet. The Wi-Fi has helped increase productivity in the workplace. The workplace has become more defined and personal (Tomlin, 2017). Facebook and WhatsApp are social media applications developed in 2004 and 2009 respectively. Facebook was invented by Mark Zuckerberg, Eduardo Saverin, Andrew McCollum, Dustin Moskovitz, and Chris Hughes while WhatsApp was invented by Brian Acton and Jan Koum. The applications have helped to redefine how people connect in the workplace. When the social media networks are used in the right way, they help to improve connectivity. The workers are able to complete tasks faster because they do not need to move to make enquiries. The social media tools have also improved communication at all levels as information can easily move from the first-line employees to the executive team (Beirne & Ramsay, 2018). Technology has nurtured an environment of creativity, innovativeness, and connectedness in the workplace.

The modern workplace empowers employees to bring out the best in them. Innovations such as Windows 95 and Wi-Fi have helped enhance creativity and innovativeness. The workplace has become more defined and personal. Facebook and WhatsApp have enhanced how workers connect and communicate in the workplace. Employees can connect at all levels. Without the inventions, the workplace environment and culture would have less innovation and creativity. Besides, the workplace would still be relying on top-down communication model.
