The Use of XML Beyond Basic Websites

XML is a platform-independent mark-up language. As such, it is applicable beyond the basic websites. For instance, it is applicable in pervasive computing, metadata applications, general application, and automation of web searches. XML is used in pervasive computing to display data on equipment such as cell phones and personal digital assistants because of its data structure. Its structure makes it also applicable to metadata because its information is easier to express and reuse. XML is also applicable in general telecommunication data storage, transmission, and display. Finally, XML is applied in the automation of web searches because of its ability to define the data contents of a file. As such, it returns more accurate search results compared to using other mark-up languages such as HTML.

A Description of an Example of XML Use in A Web Page Or Web Application

An example of the use of XML on the web page includes the use of namespace. A namespace allows the inclusion of different datasets in one XML file without conflicting names. In essence, the namespace is a pointer that allows the differentiation of duplicate attribute names or XML elements ("IBM Knowledge Center," 2020) . The example a code XMLNS : XHTML= "http://www.example.edu/2001/xhtml the use of XML and XHTML presents the requirement to use the reserved XML attributes. thus all the elements of XHTML have the XHTML prefix.

The Importance of XHTML in Website Design

There are two main importance of using XHTML in website designs. First, it sets down a stricter standard of developing web pages. As such, the data is more structured and conforming. The structuring and enhanced conformity of XML data ease the processing and passing of the web pages across different browsers. Secondly, the use of XHTML can utilize applications. Thus it makes it compatible with all the major browsers ("IBM Knowledge Center," 2020)
