Question 1

Numerous things would need to be done differently. A close examination of this case reveals it involves the implementation of change through the introduction of the EMR system to replace the manual system where physicians use chart notes when handling patient visit. A number of things need to be done differently. The first one is the approach of the senior management towards the adoption of the change (Williamson, 2011). Senior management would need to involve the physicians in the process of policy implementation. It is clear that the physicians resist the change for they feel that the EMR does not address their needs. Secondly, there is need for the senior management to engage the vendor differently by allowing a progressive approach for the implementation of the EMR system (Ogilvie, 2016). This is as opposed to the case where the management offers a directive that from this date, all data should be entered through the EMR system.

In addition, the other thing that should be done differently is to establish an IT administration office that would offer support for the implementation of the EMR system. The fact that the change is new, staff at the different centers would need to be offered IT support for duration of time before they can adopt into the new system. Like other changes, there would be need to create an IT support office that would specifically help launch the change and see the areas that would need to be fixed. In addition, the management would need to change the operation of the system by requesting the vendor to make a tailored EMR system that would address the specifics of Zenity Internal Medicine (Williamson, 2011).

Question 2

The current situation at Zenith could be fixed through a collaborative framework between the vendors and senior management, the IT department and physicians; and lastly, between the physicians and the nurses who work under them. First, it begins collaboration efforts being made by the senior management and vendors. There is need for the senior management to talk to the vendors to find the possibility of making changes to the system so that it could be tailored to address the needs of the organization. There is need for the system to be adjusted to meet the specifics of the organization in terms of the users, the services the organization has, as well as, the simplicity of use by the staff (Parkin, 2009). These three aspects are critical considering the fact that the EMR has to address the needs and gaps that have been identified.

In addition, after the EMR system has been re-introduced, there would be need for the collaboration of the IT department and physicians. Collaboration between the IT department and physicians would be important, especially when it comes to training the physicians and nurses on how the system works. As opposed to allowing the staff to learn from the demos, it would be important for the staff to be trained through organized training forums. Such an approach would help in making the system operate with ease. Lastly, there would be need for the collaboration between the physicians and the nurses who work under them. This collaboration will allow the physicians to know where they need to feed the data and where the nurses would need to submit data. The collaboration will also help in the times of retrieving data by the nurses for use by physicians.
