My smart academic goal is to be enrolled in special education certification classes; I need to graduate with a degree in education with a GPA of 3.0. To achieve this, I will attend and participate in group discussions as I have a strong memory recall from that. Additionally, I will correspond with my instructors by scheduling meetings to cover topics or assignments that I did not understand. Lastly, I will visit the library’s media center thrice a week to conduct further classwork research. My professional goal is to be a sped coordinator within two years of my teaching experience. To do so, I will commit myself to professional development courses about special education teaching strategies, coordination, and leadership. Additionally, I will strive to partner with families in carrying out my practice, the community around us, and network with other colleagues. My motivation for graduating with a degree in education with a 3.0 GPA stems from my passion for supporting all individuals' learning. For my professional goal, the motivation is to provide equal opportunity for all students. I am passionate about advocating for focused strategies to teach differently-abled students and empower them to excel in life.
The two leadership traits that will be a guiding light to achieving my goals are intelligence and determination (Northouse, 2016). Intelligence will enable me to form functional relationships with my peers, instructors, colleagues, and supervisors at work. I believe this to be important as one needs to rely on others to provide useful feedback, collaborate during idea creation, and implement feasible strategies, which helps in my academic and professional goal achievement.

Determination will enable me to stay on-task and regularly refer to the plan set to achieve the goals. Goal accomplishment is the result of the daily activities that compound to propel us to the finish line. Determination will push me to create to-do-lists and check the milestones I make along the way. It is important as it will ensure I am accountable with my class attendance, submitting assignments on time, and reflecting on lessons covered. Professionally, I will be proactive in building networks and regularly communicate with them to keep them current. Undertaking continued professional development courses while teaching as well also requires determination.
I greatly admire environmental activist Greta Thunberg, a strong advocate for taking action against climate change. I first learned about her when she staged a lone strike outside the Swedish parliament in 2018; she was 15 at the time. I was surprised not only because she is so young but also because she had been diagnosed with selective mutism at one point in her life. I could only imagine the odds she had to surpass to be there at that time, and that was so admirable.
Peers from her school did not join, her parents dissuaded her from doing so, and nationals and passersby were bemused by her action. However, in four months, she had inspired about 20,000 students to stage walkouts in their schools for what she named the Fridays for the future campaign. The following year the protest to demand action against climate change had grown to include more than 30 countries. She is authentic and has integrity, inspirational, possesses an undeniable presence, and communicates her message. One thing I can learn from her to successfully achieve my goals is, to be honest with myself and practice consistency in carrying out the action plan for my goals.
