According to the US Energy Information Administration, 2016, natural gas is the leading electricity source at 33.8% followed by coal at 30.4%, nuclear 19.7% and renewable sources at 14.9%. From my energy consumption gasoline is the most expensive followed by electricity, then by LPG and finally by natural gas.

Solar energy is the cheapest of all sources since it is the initial cost that needs to be considered. It is advisable to look into alternative means of transport for instance buses and trains to reduce the volume of gasoline used. Similarly buying a fuel efficient car will reduce the usage. Investing in solar energy to power some of the electrical appliances will reduce the amount spent on electricity. Additionally, it would be advisable to decrease the number of TV time and washing to a minimum level by switching off when not in use and doing laundry work twice a week. Lastly, all the bulbs should either be fluorescent or LED bulbs.
Some of the changes that are expected to be difficult include using public means to and from work. Additionally, harnessing solar energy for the electrical appliance may require additional investment which might be costly in the short run. Trying to reduce the number of laundry days will encourage the accumulation of dirty clothes which is not healthy. However, a gradual shift towards renewable energy will help in achieving an energy mix that is less costly and friendly to the environment.
