Environmental Issues Faced By Business and Society

Environmental problems are posing significant issues in the contemporary world and the business environment. This issue has persisted because enterprises deplete the natural resources from the earth and dispose waste into the environment and this has damaged the environment people live in. As communities expand, the need for resources increases. The environmental concerns that are faced by industries and society are pollution (air, and, noise, water, and land), global warming, depletion of natural resources, fracking, deforestation, hazardous disposal of wastes, pipeline leaks, among others (Carroll & Buchholtz, 2009). This essay will address pollution as one of the critical ecological issue encountered by businesses and society

It is virtuously not right to interfere with the ecologies and detriment the living things in that ecosystem. In the current world, it has become almost impossible for a business to operate without damaging the ecosystem because firms will need natural resources from the earth and many of them have no option but to dispose the waste unsafely or pollute the environment. Pollution has been a major environmental concern facing many businesses and society. Pollution refers to a process of harming the environment hence making it not safe to use (Pollution: Causes and Effects - Conserve Energy Future, 2013). 

Advancements in technology have brought significant changes in the world. However, emission from factories and cars have polluted the environment and caused global warming. Besides, many companies do not dispose waste products properly hence leading to land pollution. When it rains, and this waste is directed to rivers, water is polluted hence killing the aquatic life. Pollution is a major environmental issue facing the business and the society, and if the problem is not adequately addressed, the ecosystem will be threatened, and the environment will not be a safe place to live in. Additionally, the issue of climate change or global warming will never be solved if companies and societies continue polluting the environment. 

Many organizations are using NPI data to develop the manufacturing process. Besides, they also benchmark their radiations against the same facilities ("Reducing pollution | National Pollutant Inventory", 2016). Annual reporting has assisted many firms to document their progress in decreasing the gas emissions. This strategy acts as a measure of the current environmental performance. One of the primary objectives of NPI is to inspire organizations to employ clean production methods to reduce waste and gas emissions. When firms are reporting, they have an opportunity to report their more decent production actions and their developments in controlling pollution that they have embarked on in that reporting year. A board in New South Wales known as Carter Harvey Holt particleboard has come up with numerous strategies for reducing emissions released into the environment and this has led to better waste management and has reduced the emissions

The other approach adopted by organizations in fighting pollution is through recycling. Numerous firms reuse products that may seem to be good. They spend a lot of time sorting out what can be recycled and rubbish, and this has helped in reduction of pollution. Other firms have gone to an extent of coming up with websites that can be used to recycle commodities like mobile phones. Recycling has saved depletion of natural resources, and also reduced air and land pollution.

In conclusion, industries exist so that it can help the people. Therefore, firms should ensure that they embrace and abide by moral, ethical behavior and come up with other resources without threatening the wellbeing of the humanity. Businesses should understand that pollution is harmful to the environment and jeopardizes human existence in the planet. Therefore, businesses and societies should come up with strategies for ensuring that they do not pollute the environment. Such plans include recycling that leads to proper waste disposal and use of NPI data that helps in reducing gas emissions.
