No country for old men film takes place in Western Texas in the 1980s, Anton Chigurh (Javier Bardem) character revolves around a sociopath in pursuit of two million. Bobby Dupea (Jack Nicholson) character development in Five Easy Pieces, tells a story of a man who has little to show for his existence.
Bobby’s personality is smart, he knows what he wants but his inability to get it makes him irrational and rude (Rafelson, et al 2004). Bobby effortlessly treats the waitress with an attitude of superiority a behavior he believes makes him look cooler to his entourage. Anton Chigurh’s character is dangerous from when we see him, dressed in all black, uncommon haircut and his plaint face tells us he isn’t the man to be around. He is a tough guy who speaks little and has a conviction in what he says. Both men are smart and have fully decided what they want. Bobby has an easy going way in how he explains himself, patient enough to see if the other party understands him. Anton on the other hand expresses himself through questions and short phrases leaving the old man confused on his intentions (McCarthy, 2010).

Bobby’s character is that of an individual who is impulsive and finds joy taking the easy way out. In the image Bobby orders a chicken-salad sandwich without the chicken (“You want me to hold the chicken huh?” “I want you to hold it between your knees!”) (Rafelson, et al 2004). The scene is full of conflict with Bobby showing psychopathic traits. He has a superficial charm going on with his lady friends while he treats the waitress with callousness and no empathy. Anton has shallow affect a superficial way in how he responds to other people’s emotions. He has a grandiose pose is cunning. Anton’s randomness in seen when he flips a coin and asks the shop keeper to “call it” a dangerous symbol that means either life or death (McCarthy, 2010).
