Which art movement since World War II has been the most influential to you personally and why?

The most influential art movement since the Second World War is Abstract Expressionism. The reason why it has personal influence is its commitment to the expression of the self. It is also born out of profound emotion and universal themes and has a sense of surrealism and has been fitted into the expression of anxiety and trauma after the war. The art movement has set the stage for the dominance of American art and has overtaken the French from such dominance.

Why did art change so much during the twentieth century and explore so many non-traditional forms?

The art of the twentieth century changed due to the revolution of technology. The Second World War was responsible for the radical revolution of technology which affected globalization. This in turn had a great impact on how human beings interconnected during the twentieth century with information across the expanse of space and variation of time. Artists of the abstract expressionist movement were inspired by their crossing across borders due to the Second World War and intermixing with different groups. This affected their artistic vocabulary.

Did the content of art change as did the form of art? In what ways?

Art changed in content and form. Surrealism was introduced and made to emphasize on the unconscious mind. This is paralleled by the introduction of abstract expressionism which focused on the psyche of the individual and his or her spontaneous technique. The expressionists did not work with representational forms but rather art that was able to communicate a monumental scale along with the inner state of an artist fused with the language of the universe.

As an artist in any medium, would you have a movement, theory, or manifesto that expresses what you believe art should or could be doing now?

As an artist, I would not introduce a movement, theory, or manifesto. Instead, I would seek to unite art in the sense that it speaks different languages that are all important to humanity. Therefore, I would play the role of an umpire for the different schools of art in the belief that they are all doing what they should or could be doing at the moment in their own language, forms and content.
