Child Description
Weak Finger Muscles pencil grip was used on a six-year-old male African American. Besides being non-verbal, the child has been diagnosed with Autism. Physically, he is short with brown eyes and brown curly hair. It is his first experience in an elementary school setting. The child’s strength includes being creative with blocks and legos. He likes singing, reading books and playing with trains and plane. He also loves finger painting. Although the child shies away from his peers, he socializes freely with adults. His father is teaching him to shoot a basketball.
The child’s weakness is that he cannot self-regulate himself and tends to get frustrated easily, prompting him to scream. Also, he is known for fighting when things fail to go his way. His mother explains that he has been kicked out of two daycares, and due to the fact of his lack of speech, she is uncomfortable with him around other children. Besides, he is unable to write, and color well.

Place, Focused Areas, Equipment Use and Activity to be Modified
My assistant and I give this student full inclusion services/ instruction at a small PK class in an Elementary school named (Vic Pitre) where I am employed. The muscles in the student's hands are weak. The student has a need to write his name and hold a crayon correctly, through the use of the equipment created (the pencil grip). The student will be writing his letters and numbers that he learned for the week. This activity will be modified by incorporating by using the created pencil grip to help him hold the pencil correctly.
Rationale, how it will Support the Child’s N eeds and Equipment Description
Small children tend to have weak muscles which develop with time. It implies that the muscles in these children take time before they can strengthen and support writing for an extended period. It is for this reason that the adaptive equipment, Weak Finger Muscles pencil grip, was invented. Weak Finger Muscles pencil grip can help learners with disabilities to not only participate in classroom activities but also in the community setting without any significant difficulties. The pencil grip is to help position the weak fingers of the student and to help him to gain confidence and success in this activity for the strengthening of weak muscles. Weak Finger Muscles pencil grip is supported by five cushion rings blue, pink and orange. The green/orange elastic band is wrapped around his fingers; making the pencil to be tight enough to give control and stability.
Activity Modification’s Impact the Child’s Learning/Participation
Activity modification is going to support the child’s learning and/or participation. This is part of the reason that creative play, coloring, and scribbling are all important. These activities help children to develop the strength they need in their fingers to develop the fine motor control needed for correct pencil grasp and to carry out many other fine motor tasks Incorrect pencil grips may develop for many different reasons.
Video Explaining how to Use the Tool (Script)
The Weak Finger Muscles pencil grip is simple to use since all one got to do is to fix the tool in the pencil and position between the user’s fingers. The next step will be to wrap the green/orange elastic band around his fingers to enable a firm grip of the pencil which will also make the fingers to adapt to that position. The tight posture will also allow room for controlling the pencil and maintaining stability. That is how simple it is to use the tool effectively.
