Identity describes how people uniquely establish themselves, whereas intimacy encompasses the trait where one conscious of self can offer care and receive back from other parties. Among adolescents, these interactions are influenced by intelligence, physical health, gender, appearance, and social skills, to mention but a few. How a person fairs during adolescence greatly determines their future personality for it helps incorporate different aspects of a person hence their personality.

The Ericson stage of identity vs. role confusion goes before the stage of intimacy vs. isolation. During this stage, which covers the ages of 12-18 years, the adolescents endeavor to discover themselves 1 . They seek to get their sense of belonging, their space in society through trying to fit in different sectors and fields of life. After these trials and testing, they shift to accepting themselves and offering care intimately to those in dire need as well from concerned individuals who show kind gestures to them.

The ability to love, self-regulation, and moral thoughts or emotions among adolescents help shape the kind of parents they will become in adult age. This is because the environment they spent their puberty stage is largely lending them traits transferable to adult age. This consequently determines the kind of parenting they will offer to their offspring. The interactions, behaviors, company, and affairs we engage in becoming part and parcel of their lives hence applicable in their parenting stages, for that is the best they know 2 .

Throughout life, we attest to applying the experiences acquired from the adolescent stage where through intimacy, identity obtaining and shifting from children to adults, we are realigned to adjust and conform to the practicable norms.
