The observation took place at a shopping mall. At the shopping mall was a kid approximately 3years old. She was seated with two adults (a male and a female) at a food court A live band is played in the restaurant to entertain the customers. The customers seem to be enjoying the entertainment as they take their meals and snacks as some seem to be idle seated. There is a lot of movement at the food court as some kids dance to the music played while others are to playing.

The adult female, probably the mother and the child jointly play. The mother covers her face with the hands and the child seems to be struggling to remove her mother’s hands from her face. The child and the mother shows a positive interaction. As the two have fun together, they show a strong emotional attachment, as the two show high level of respect and tolerance for each other

According to Piaget’s theory, the process of cognitive development is dependent on how an organism can adapt to its environment, which is described as intelligence. The two processes used by the individual in its attempt to adapt is assimilation and accommodation, which are both used though out life as the person gradually adapts to the environment in a more complex manner. Assimilation is simply the process of transforming the environment so that it can be placed in preexisting cognitive structures while accommodation is the process of changing cognitive structures in order to accept something from the environment. This is exhibited strongly on the child as she seems to adjust to the environment and at some point, she leaves the parent to join other kids in the dance and play

The parent gives instructions to the kid at some point when the child becomes reluctant to eat .The child obeys the mother, though she is uneasy, she resumes her dish. This fully illustrates Kohlberg’s theory of moral development especially the first level of moral development known as preconventional level. At this level of moral development according to Kohlberg, a child's sense of morality is controlled externally. The child at this level accepts and believes the rules of the authority figure such as a parent of which in this case is the mother, and judge an action based on its consequences. This is strong displayed when the child shows obedience to her mother and finishes her food due to the punishment that may have followed in case she had refused.

The child leaves the mother and joins the other kids in playing at a close proximity to the parents; she is not ashamed of joining the other kids and at some point, she dances to the music being played. This level of confidence and self-esteem gained is best explained by the second level of Erikson’s theory of psychosocial development known as the toddler stage whereby the child has an opportunity to build self-esteem and autonomy as she learns right from wrong.

The child displayed normal cognitive, physical emotional and social development for a child of the same age. This is because of the play she had with other kids who were a stranger to her, the obedience she had for her mother and the dance she had.

Having specific questions in mind while observing other people makes you think in a certain way. Your reasoning towards a person is restricted towards one direction (the questions you have in mind) as you try to get answers to the specific questions. However, it helps you have deeper understanding of how one behaves in a certain environment, as you try to solve the questions you have in mind.
