One of the public policy that is impacting me and my practice is the Excellence in Mental Health Act. The policy creates criteria for certified community behavioral health clinics as bodies designed to offer service to individuals wi9th serious mental problems and other disorders that are related to substance use to ensure there is the availability of services ( Melton, Petrila, Poythress, Slobogin, Otto, Mossman & Condie, 2017 ). The healthcare policy was designed to address the accessibility of mental health services.
The policy is already achieving its intended purpose since today, accessibility to mental health care has been improved, and this can be based on the reduced number of people with mental problems within the society. Also, people across the country are taking mental health issues more seriously than before, thus making it easy to treat the patients before the problem is much serious. The policy is favorable to all nurses since they can now specialize in mental health caregiving, and so they can offer quality services to their patients ( Golightley & Goemans, 2017 ).
Delegate your assignment to our experts and they will do the rest.
One health care issue I would want to be addressed is the issue of the cost of mental health problems. Most people fear to take their relatives and friends to the hospital due to lack of funds. The government should revise the cost of services so that all people can be treated equally ( Fawcett & Karban, 2013) . To guide my policy development, I would use Kingdom’s model to explain the process of policy formulation in the health care. Also, the model would be used to explain how certain issues are becoming the focus of concerted political attention, and the proposed solutions to these issue.
