Advocacy mainly aims at ensuring that the minors and vulnerable in the society have a voice. It culminates on the basis of strengthening those who may be considered weak and marginalized in the society; then ensuring their existence in the society is not downplayed. Since advocacy mainly revolves ‘giving a voice’ to those who may not have one in the society, other interventions that may correlate to advocacy include liberation, campaigns, demonstrations, and community education. The difference between advocacy and liberation is that advocacy mainly involves speech to enlighten the public on the marginalized. Liberation, on the other hand, involves physical push, which at times may include fights, to free the oppressed. Campaigns and demonstrations also involve physical activity like walking in the streets with banners and posters to push for a certain course.

Community education mainly aims at passing knowledge rather than ‘speaking out’ for a segment of the society (Tom, 2012). The other difference between advocacy and other interventions is the reason and motivation behind each. Advocacy is purely for ‘giving a voice’ to the vulnerable members of the society. Campaigns, Liberation, Demonstrations, and Community education usually have shifting agenda that revolve around the economy, politics, and the other formative elements of our societal life. I would choose advocacy over other interventions because it is goal-oriented and particular in its objectives. Unlike other interventions, advocacy is usually based on a single goal or agenda that cannot be deviated from. Advocacy is also exclusively peaceful and does not result in chaos and violence like campaigns, demonstrations, and liberation.

The family is the basic unit of the society. Children are usually the last ‘piece’ to fill in the family puzzle. Most children do not have a voice since they look up to their parents for most things. In case of the absence of the parents or it occurs that the parents abuse the children, there has to be an intervention. Advocacy for children and families does not only sensitize the public but also pulls in the attention of the federal government. The Congress has been known to convene and discuss children and family-related matters raised through advocacy. Laws have even been passed through advocacy. There are no negatives in choosing advocacy. However, some individuals abuse the platform for their personal gains or agenda. Also, the effectiveness of advocacy in some situations and places may be ‘blurry.’
