Introduction

The selection and recruitment processes within an organization are important in ensuring that the right employees exist within the organization. Human Resource (HR) departments have the responsibility of hiring and recruiting employees and expected to make decisions that result in the increased productivity of the organization. Amazon needs to fill the position of the warehouse supervisor at several of its warehouses. Due to a recent expansion, the company now needs 20 warehouse supervisors who will be responsible for controlling, directing, and organizing operations in its different warehouse locations. This supervision should be directed at ensuring that there is increased effectiveness in these operations. This paper is structured to explore the legal landscape during recruitment, a recruitment plan for a warehouse supervisor, the importance of recruitment, tools utilized during the selection process, and a selection plan for a warehouse supervisor at amazon. The processes of selection and recruitment of employees by HR is essential for the identification of qualified and high-performing employees that fit in with the organizational culture.

Legal Landscape

To ensure that proper regulations and guidelines are put in place during the recruitment and selection of the staff, several factors will have to be considered. One of these factors is ensuring that non-discriminatory practices are integrated while determining employees' eligibility and making predictions of their performance (Gould, 2020). To ensure that no discrimination is included, the HR department will have to ensure that selection processes and any subsequent decisions made depend only on the information associated with the job and not demographic factors, such as gender, associated with the candidate. Another factor to be considered is ensuring diversity in the workforce. The recruitment and selection process should ensure that the organizational culture is based on the diversity of its employees (Gould, 2020). This diversity includes the selection of qualified candidates from a variety of backgrounds and with different opinions, who have high levels of performance.

Recruitment Plan

Recruitment is the process in which suitable candidates for a position, whether permanent or temporary, are identified, attracted, screened, shortlisted, and interviewed (Chytiri et al., 2018). Based on the size of a firm, recruitment is carried out by a wide range of employees. Recruitment is important for several reasons in the management of human resources. One of the reasons as to why it is important is that it enables the HR department to fill up the position with the appropriate candidate. During the recruitment process, Amazon’s HR department will assess existing applications to identify individuals with the skills that are needed for the warehouse supervisor job position. In this case, Amazon will receive a variety of applications concerning the warehouse supervisor position.

The recruitment process also has an essential role in the growth and development of an organization. During recruitment, Amazon will obtain access to a pool of talent. A large number of candidates will apply for the position based on the skill set that is outlined by Amazon (Chytiri et al., 2018). Hence, based on this large number of candidates, Amazon’s HR will identify the best candidate for the warehouse supervisor position. In this case, through recruitment, Amazon will be able to identify the best candidates for the warehouse supervisor position.

Only two tools will be used for the selection of candidates. The first tool will be the preliminary screening of applicants’ resumes and application forms to determine whether they meet the job requirements (Ullah, 2010). This tool has been selected as it enables the assessment of the qualifications of candidates and their suitability to the position. The second tool will be interviewed by hiring managers. Applicants that perform well during the screening will then be included in face-to-face interviews with the hiring managers. This tool will be utilized to enable the identification of the candidates best suited to the position based on how they fit into the workplace culture.

Selection Plan

Staffing is the process of hiring eligible candidates in a firm for specific positions. It involves the recruitment of employees through the evaluation of their skills and knowledge and then assigning them specific job roles (Howells, 2020). The primary importance of the staffing function is that it helps an organization to discover and obtain qualified and competent personnel for different positions in the firm. Aptitude tests and situational judgment tests (SJTs) will be used as the main methods of assessment during selection (Howells, 2020). Aptitude tests will be used as they will assess the ability of the employee to learn and adapt to changes in the future. SJTs will be integrated as they will help in identifying the effectiveness of the capabilities of candidates before they are selected.

Two interview techniques will be used in the selection process. Structured interviews will be used to evaluate the knowledge, skills, and experience of the interviewees (Ullah, 2010). The second form of interviews, situational interviews, will be used to identify the problem-solving capabilities of the candidate being interviewed. The following job-specific questions will be included;

What strategy do you think is best to monitor operations in a warehouse?

How would you deal with unexpected problems that affect warehouse operations?

What steps would you take to ensure that operations in the warehouse are completed accurately and on time?

How would you manage and motivate employees?

How would you handle employees that continuously underperform?

Conclusion

Due to its expansion, Amazon needs 20 warehouse supervisors. To ensure that the appropriate employees are hired, the company's HR department has to ensure that appropriate selection and recruitment techniques are used. Based on the selection and recruitment methods identified, Amazon will find the best candidates suited to its organizational need. The processes of selection and recruitment of employees by HR is essential for the identification of qualified and high-performing employees that fit in with the organizational culture.
