Amazon is a large internet-based business that sells books, music, movies, houseware, and toys for the kids, among other things. They sell the goods directly or as middlemen for various companies. The company has many customers around the globe. Amazon also offers multiple services that include storage of data and computer resources such as cloud computing. Amazon is also responsible for kindle, which is an e-book platform.  

Various stories describe the organization and how it operates. A former employee at amazon describes the workplace as one that is fast-paced, with employees being monitored in real-time. A delay in one’s work would reflect in the number of goods they worked on. Failure to hit one’s quota meant that one would be written up, and if they did not improve, they would be fired ( Streitfeld, & Kantor , 2015). There was the constant lifting of boxes before robots picked them for another stage or delivery, and this, she says negatively affected her by injuring her back, and now she lives in constant physical pain. An engineer tells another story about his experience of working at Amazon. In his story, he praises the employers and explains why he thinks Amazon is a good employer. He describes the induction process for new employees. These are personal stories located on LinkedIn and the New York Times.

The two stories aim to reveal the work environment for amazon. There are various claims that the warehouses overwork the employees and are a haven for injuries. The chief executive officer dismisses the allegations and says that whoever has such experiences should report their departmental heads. The two stories tell two experiences, two employees, at different levels at the workplace, they invoke treatment of employees at various levels creating the need for evaluation and implementation of fair and equal treatment. More so, it is essential to have channels through which employees can voice their concerns to the management without fear of reprisal.  

 The business book “ Fusion: How integrating rand and culture powers the world’s greatest companies ” by Yohn (2018) reports on some of the comments by employees. One ritual is the punishing aspects of the culture. People's actions at work reflected on performance and were used to either retain them, or they get fired. Employees said they witnessed their colleagues cry in their desks or washrooms. Others suffered a lot of stress, and some could not keep up with the intense pace at amazon. Some employees got fired for not meeting their quotas. 

 The culture at Amazon is fast-paced, seeking to keep up and be a global leader at what they do and retain customers. The organization is continuously working towards innovating its goods and services while at the same time facing competition from other firms in the industry. It is evident why the management would exert such an organizational culture to attain the success they want.  

Some employees have applauded the organization for this culture, terming it as necessary and efficient. Others have said that each organization has its own culture and the pressure on employees is what worked for amazon (Yohn, 2018). The organizational structure is promoting a performance-driven environment that takes the performance first before they consider the welfare of the employees. Employees are expected to hit specific quotas, and real-time information regarding this is sent to the managers. Failure to achieve set targets puts the employees on the radar of their managers, and failure to improve the employee is fired. The organization aims to provide customers with uninterrupted services. The goods in the warehouse were always on a clock to be shipped to a destination around the world as such employees have to work fast. It is clear the customer came first, not the welfare of the employees.
