Recruitment and staffing strategies are essential to organizations as they enable them to tap and retain the best human resource talents in the market. Effective planning and recruitment strategies allow organizations around the world to get competent employees who will remain committed to their roles. Amazon is one of the world’s largest e-commerce companies in the world. Its continued growth has been made possible by the implementation of the right business strategies and effective recruitment methods. The use of the most effective recruitment strategies has enabled the company to attract and retain the most talented, qualified, and experienced employees ( Kalaiselvan, & Naachimuthu, 2016 ). Through the analysis of the recruitment and planning strategies employed by Amazon, it is possible to come up with effective planning and recruitment strategies needed to fill the vacancy of Customer Service Manager. 

Legal Considerations 

As one of the largest corporations in the United States, there are many legal requirements that Amazon must consider before filling the position of a Customer Service Manager. The department of employment law enforces all the employment laws. Since Amazon is a large corporation, it is governed by federal employment laws. Examples of federal employment laws in the United States include the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the National Labor relations Act (NLRA), and the Pregnancy Discrimination Act (PDA) ( Posthuma, Roehling, & Campion, 2011 ). Most of these laws are mainly concerned with the protection of employees from any form of discrimination. Amazon is therefore required by law to be non-discriminative to its employees regardless of where they come from or their race. Furthermore, the company is not allowed to interfere with its employees’ rights to form or join an existing trade union under the National Labor Relations Act. Trade unions are usually involved with the agitation of employee rights and welfare. Good relationships between trade unions and companies make their operations to flow smoothly without any disruptions. Finally, it is essential for Amazon to honor the laws related to maternity and family leaves ( Posthuma, Roehling, & Campion, 2011 ). The adherence to all federal employment laws makes it possible for Amazon to operate effectively in the United States and other markets without any conflicts with authorities.

Recruitment Plan 

Recruitment is an integral part of the continuity of any business. Recruitment is the identification and hiring of the most appropriate and qualified candidates for a job opening. It is a process that involves various stages such as the advertisement of vacant job positions, the selection of the most qualified candidates, and the assimilation of the newly employed workers into an organization ( Sangeetha, 2010 ). Recruitment presents several advantages to an organization. Foremost, it enables companies to find the best-qualified candidates for open positions. Through the right recruitment strategies, companies can attract the most qualified candidates with the potential to help the companies in their growth and expansion agendas. Additionally, recruitment helps in the saving of costs associated with training and selection. Since only the most qualified and experienced employees would have been chosen, the company will spend less on their training and assimilation. Finally, the employment of the right recruitment strategies helps companies in the reduction of potential legal cases ( Sangeetha, 2010 ). When the proper procedure is followed, there will be no employment-related disputes. 

For Amazon to effectively carry out its recruitment processes, some tools can be used to improve the efficiency of the process. Some of the most used tools include video interviewing, internet sourcing, and applicant tracking systems. Video interviewing is crucial as it enables interviewing panels to conduct interviews on candidates regardless of their location. Such a tool saves the costs that may be used by the company to arrange a face-to-face interview. Internet sourcing makes it possible for companies to advertise and find the most qualified candidates over the internet ( Sangeetha, 2010 ). 

Staffing Plan 

Another important function of organizational management is staffing. Staffing is the process undertaken by companies to fill open positions at the right time and with minimal costs ( Sangeetha, 2010 ). According to Sangeetha (2010 ), through staffing, organizations can hire employees that can propel the organization towards their objectives. To carry out staffing, it is essential that organizations assess potential candidates in various ways. Among the major assessments used include interviews. Interviews are meetings where the company’s representatives ask candidates some questions aimed at finding the suitability of a candidate for the available position. Some of the questions that can be used during the interviewing process of candidates to fill the position of Customer Service Manager include; 

Can you tell me a little about yourself? 

How did you become aware of this job position? 

What do you know about Amazon? 

What are your professional strengths? 

What are some of your professional achievements? 

The above interview questions are useful because through them, interviewers can know more about the candidates and whether or not the suit the requirements of the vacant position. 

In summation, active recruitment and planning strategies are needed to enable Amazon to find the right candidate for the position of Customer Service Manager. Several legal considerations must be made by Amazon especially federal employment laws like the National Labor relations Act (NLRA), and the Pregnancy Discrimination Act (PDA). Staffing is also important as it helps companies to fill open positions at the right time and with minimal costs.
