Located in the North American continent, the United States of America is a very unique country - in terms of its culture. For one, the country may be one among the very few on earth which has a national sport, baseball - which was itself invented in the country. Almost all the residents of the country have an interest in the sport. Secondly, as a way of life, the United States has embraced a culture that stresses consumerism. Americans are among the most active consumes in the world, engaging in the high purchase of commodities and services – a fact that has spurred the growth of the national (and even global economy). Further, as a nation, the United States embraces the highest levels of human liberties, with the country itself being a champion for democracy on the global stage. In the US, individual freedoms are not only safeguarded by the state but also allowed to flourish hence offering each individual the freedom to be, and to do, whatever they wish – as long as it is within the confines of the laws of the land.
Other factors that make the United States very unique, and different from other nations, include its complicated electoral system which employs the use of an electoral college, as well as the popular vote (cast by individual citizens). Additionally, the United States is characterized by a high level of capitalism which means corporations and business have a big say in the way that the nation is governed – more so than anywhere else on earth. The nation, unlike anywhere else, is filled with endless possibilities – and anyone, no matter whom, can become whatever they dream. This may be part of the reason why the US is referred to as the ‘land of opportunities.’ Essentially, the United States is different from other nations in terms of its culture and the dominant ways of life within the country.
