The American life post 9/11 era presents far more threats to America and its citizens as compared to cold war period. The definitive fear America has is the repeat of 9/11 attack that resulted to the death of 3000 peoples from 60 different countries but mostly in the U.S. The major American threats range from terrorism to nuclear threats.

Since the terrorist attack on September 2011, the America new era has faced insecurity and unpredictability where attacks feel like omnipresent. With the evolving digital world, jihadists can now operate in protected areas through the web with relative freedom, a threat that was not seen before 9/11 (Sela-Shayovitz, 2015). The use of these dark websites has enabled the terrorists to plan and accomplish their attacks in a coordinated manner. The jihadist in the new era had allowed an individual or small groups of terrorists to arrange an attack at will without any direction which poses more unpredicted threats than before where attacks were coordinated from those in powers. When terrorists work in small groups making it is hard for intelligence to counter. Additionally, the attacks have been modified to include any weapon to ensure maximum casualty resulting in a greater feeling of insecurity as the targets are less symbolic (Sela-Shayovitz, 2015). Everybody everywhere is vulnerable in contrast to an old era where targets were mainly in crowded places.

The nuclear weapons recently have intensified threat in America where every nation want to rise over the U.S. In the last few years Russian president, Putin has shown intentions to position Russia as a revisionist nation. Russian has accumulated 4,300 nuclear warheads which have confronted the U.S making Russia a worrisome threat than even the terrorism threat (Paine, 2017). Russia accumulation of this nuclear weapon keep even the American citizens at a stake whereby if the war was to begin it would be a grave. In China, there are also looming threats of nuclear stockpile which is likely to devastate America if the relation between the two countries worsens. Additionally, North Korea outsized nuclear capability gaining than before has challenged the United States through many threats that it was in the cold war era (Paine, 2017).

The post-American life 9/11 era has created more tension in America which needs to be addressed. The rise of technology has created an easy route for terrorists to pass their message which should be addressed by web securities to block and provide information to the authority. Terrorism is a major threat to American citizens, and tight security should be maintained at the borders to prevent explosives entry. Nuclear threat that existed even during the cold war has been intensified as countries such as Russia, and North Korea has accumulated many nuclear weapons which a threat to America and the whole world.
