STEP Standard 7 – Reflecting on Instruction to Improve Student Progress
Improved Practice Based on the Unit of Study
Based on the experience of developing and delivering your instructional unit, list three short-term goals to improve specific areas of your teaching practice based on the unit of instruction and describe your plan to reach each short-term goal
Short-Term Goal |
Plan to Reach the Goal (i.e., professional development, research on the Internet, observation of a veteran teacher, etc.) |
Improved classroom interaction |
Increased classroom interaction will easily improve students’ participation in class. Luckily I a control over an improved classroom interaction. One of the reasons for distinct student-teacher relationship is based on different teachers’ personality. Based on this, I will strive to meet this short term goal by watching a veteran teacher who is considered to be one of the best when it comes to classroom interaction. I will be keen on the method the teacher employs and how to shift to a very active class with a total student participation from an inactive class. I believe active participation will be able to improve the performance of the students. |
Increased Review Academic Progress |
Frequent assessment of the students’ academic progress in their daily class work and homework can play a role in improving my student performance. Frequent assessment on students’ progress is dependent on professional skills. I will utilize my professional skills to critically identify areas of weakness among the students that are not performing averagely. I will further use my knowledge to give the students instructions on how to work on their weak areas. Some of the professional ways that I will use in this short term goal include re testing and continuous assessment test. |
Improved Classroom Preparation |
Classroom preparation is one of the ways to ensure that student are able to grasp all the concepts taught in class. I will try to improve on my current classroom preparation to include the needs of the students. I will utilize internet research and other non-internet research on ways to improve on classroom preparation. Some of the areas that I will focus on will include some of the unique props to utilize in order to prepare effectively for a class and extra equipment such as projectors that can increase chances of student understanding the lesson. Good lesson plans and goals will play a part in this. |
