The journalist was right to be specific on what the original article had focused on. However, the journalist left out a lot of details from what was contained in the original article. While the journalist noted that there was a causal relationship, there was no detailed explanation of how the two variables are related as was done in the original article. In the original article, the authors were specific on significant details such as expressive play, constructive play, associative play and motor play as well as their effects on various aspects of development such as cognitive, social, motor and language. Based on the original article, the author was wrong by stating that “ Play is a natural stress reliever and an outlet that allows children to work through their anxiety and fears.” While the statement may be right in another context, it deviates from the purpose of the research.
Similarly, the journalist did not describe the procedures of the study accurately. It only focused on the analysis of the findings, leaving out many other significant details yet adding others that were not important for the specific research. The journalist needed to have focused on the key points of the research without deviating or even leaving out key points required to conclude. In overall, the journalist covered well most of the original article but omitted some significant details that were necessary for one to understand the research.
