The main idea of the article by Davenhall et al. (2011) is to present notable applications related to human service, hence, stimulate the interest of the readers and other stakeholders on understanding the relevance of GIS in social work. This source is a recent article published in less than ten years by experts from Esri and the National Network of Public Health Institutes. It is, therefore, compelling because it is written from an expert point of view. Additionally, it is credible because it cites information from credible bodies such as the World Health Organization, CDC, and UNAIDS. The information presented is accurate and credible as well. Most importantly, it relates to the topic because it looks into how GIS can influence the health aspect of social work. It is written to inform readers of the dynamic ways this tool can be helpful in human and even animal health research and problem-solving.

This source is relevant because it looks at how spatial data analysis can provide information to social workers on the prevalence, distribution, and geographic-specific aspects of diseases. With this information, they can easily collaborate with stakeholders in the healthcare industry to ensure they offer evidence-based services to the target populations.

This article’s thesis is that GIS can is an instrumental tool in positively influencing social work. The authors conclude that since this is a technology that has been tested, it should be more integrated into human services. The article is significantly relevant because it was published less than ten years ago by experts in the GIS field. Additionally, it presents accurate information, giving examples of instances where GIS has successfully been used to improve human services. It exists to inform the masses about how GIS can be integrated into social work to enhance services in this sector. The author gives basic information about GIS and how it can be used in the human services field in the source. They also espouse that it is a vital tool in mental health research and research on nutrition dynamics in different geographical locations. An example of such an implementation that the authors cite is Rural Mine. The authors also assert that GIS can be instrumental in enhancing the health assessment process.

This source is highly relevant because it looks at the problem at hand from dynamic perspectives. For a long time, social work has mainly been about physical visits and assessment of the situation as it is on the ground. The source presents a different, current, and less tedious way of implementing such services. The source is also evidence-based because it cites examples where there has been successful implementation of GIS. This source will be used to offer more insight and answers to the research question. Due to its relevance, I will use it in gathering information related to my research question.
