A few minorities can have more economic and political representation as to majority groups like the case of South Africa. In deciding who is minority mostly depend on issues of politics, history, and judgment. Population features rather than ethnicity and race for example gender, age and religious preferences most of the times are employed to assign minority status (Negi & Furman, 2010). Ethnicity and race are factors applied mostly to define majority and minority populations in USA society. The different encounters of ethnic groups are systematically rooted in society although races, in reality, do not subsist. What does subsist is the notion in which races are distinct biological categories. Even though, some scientist decline race as concrete means to segregate human groups. Although biological race is not there, races are reality and are socially defined.
Social workers acknowledge fundamental values of human equality and rights and these are defended in international and national law, policies, and conventions (Parrott, 2010). They ensure that their practice adheres to these principles. They understand impacts of discrimination, poverty, and oppression. Social workers comprehend the significance of applying and contributing to law and employing these rights to their life (Parrott, 2010). Social workers also uphold ethics and values that direct them in their professional practice. They have a responsibility to carry themselves ethically as they also engage in providing an ethical way of decision making. They even partner with those persons using their services.

If all human being can embrace what social workers are instilling in us. People can live peacefully without the idea of race and ethnicity not leaving out differentiation in accordance with power and economic muscle. For instance, social workers believe that human being are equal and therefore must be treated with dignity regardless of their ethnicity, race, color, or sex orientation.
