Apollo 13 is a movie that was released in 1995 directed by Ron Howard starring Tom Hanks as Jim Lovell, Bill Paxton as Fred Haise and Kevin Bacon as Jack Swigert as the three astronauts upon the craft. It was launched in the year 1970 on April 11, but the mission to the moon did not follow through due to an explosion from one of the oxygen tanks. The movie is centered around the struggles that the three astronauts endured getting back to earth as well as their colleagues at NASA who helped them to get back safely and the families of the three men especially Marilyn Lovell, Jim's wife. In the end, the three men managed to come to earth in one piece, safe and sound.

Concepts of organizational development are evident in this movie, which are organizational climate, organizational culture, and organizational strategies. Organizational climate is evident in the way the NASA members did not give up to bring the three of them back home; they never gave up even when things seemed hopeless, they influenced one another, Gene Kranz even says "Failure is not an option." Organizational culture is when the astronauts and NASA work together, keeping their shared values and ensuring they are successful in their new mission, to save their colleagues. The concept of organizational strategies is also depicted in the movie; we can see how they collectively identified the problem and implemented an intervention which birthed positive progress in the end.

The organizational development process is self-explanatory in the onset of the movie; it begins with the identification of a problem which was the explosion of one of the oxygen tanks. The process continued with the assessment of the problem; this was when Lovell noticed that one side of the spacecraft was missing thirteen minutes after the explosion and informed the other crew members. Swigert immediately informed NASA about the incident which led to the planning of an intervention. After this, it was time for implementation of the plan; the three astronauts made their way into the lunar module lifeboat; they fired the landing engine severally and finally got back to the correct trajectory. The organization development process for this particular movie ends when the crew obtains the results that they desired, which was to save the lives of the astronauts.

The concept of organizational development was greatly meaningful as it generated the desired results, the carefully planned efforts and management by NASA increased the effectiveness of the plan which led to saving the lives of James, John, and Fred. Some of the organizational lessons learned included; if you put your mind on succeeding, even the impossible will be accomplished as long as the problem is correctly identified, assessed and intervention is implemented successfully. Also that we should not be quick to lose hope because where there is a will, there is away.

There were only a few mistakes throughout the movie; trivial editing mistakes like for example the camera that was accidentally seen in the tunnel way as well as the string that helped James to hop on the moon in his dream just to name a few. At times the vocabulary that they used was tough to understand due to its complex nature, and therefore it was hard to follow what was being communicated. The music throughout the movie was quite intriguing, and it made you feel a part of the film. Suggestions would include better editing and using a more understandable language so that the audience could understand what was going on. Other than this is a timely movie that gives the audience a wonderful emotional experience as it stays true to the actual events and characters.
