For a long time, I have always had the vision to be an Applied Behaviour Analyst (ABA). This vision was driven by the fundamental characteristic of an ABA which would be mutually beneficial to my Mental Health Therapy Master program . Having the complex skills and abilities to perform a type of therapy whose primary focus is on improving specific helpful behaviors such as communication and social skills is my personal endeavor. These skills would assist me in combating and decreasing behaviors that may be harmful to any individual whose learning has been directly affected. Mental illness ethology is comprised of interactions between genetics, neurobiology, physiology and environmental factors that cause psychological, physiological and behavioral changes. All these factors are intertwined with my Mental Health Therapy Master program.
Including ABA in mental health programs is crucial as it not only increases my range of available interventions while handling delicate patients, but it also improves therapeutic outcomes in mental health-related cases. Through ABA’s focused strategies, I will enable people to re-engage in their lives as it is designed to counter patterns of withdrawal, inactivity, and avoidance that may be stemming from mental health issues such as depression. Having the endeavor to reveal environmental-behavior relation, adding ABA to my Mental Health Therapy Master program will make it easier to evaluate behaviors that originate from medical conditions but can persist due to social contingencies. As an ABA, I will be pragmatic; with the aim of identifying a way that any individual can be able to do anything effectively. This approach is essential for patients with mental illness since most of them are unable to cope with ordinary life demands due to disturbances in thought/behavior.

Applied Behaviour Analysts are highly used to making interventions for individuals with autism, which is considered a mental illness. As an ABA, I can assist autistic people to improve their social skills, maintain positive behaviors and boost their learning skills. Being that I am passionate about improving the quality of life for autistic patients, I would like to gain the necessary skills to create a conducive environment for controlling situations whereby positive behaviors overcome negative behaviors. Helping people as an ABA is my ultimate career and life goal, which will be achieved through helping people manage lifestyle changes that may be as a result of mental conditions. Ultimately, as an ABA I will play a significant role in the treatment of mental illnesses through therapies and treatment plans that help improve patients’ communication and behavior skills. It is, therefore, necessary that it is included in my Mental Health Therapy Master program because of the techniques and therapeutic outcomes that it imparts.
