Discrimination among children in classroom environments can be done either directly or indirectly. It is common to find teachers specifying the type of curricular activities their students will indulge in. Boys and girls are often separated when performing physical exercises. The preferential treatment given to both genders makes girls to view themselves to be different from boys and vice versa. Another form of discrimination can result from the teaching mode that a teacher adopts. For example, teachers use the same teaching models to each student regardless of the differences in their social and cultural background. Each student has unique learning abilities and using teaching models that treat all of them as equal is discriminatory as it is a disadvantage to others. Discrimination regarding economic status usually results when students are required to fund their educational tours and surveys. Students who are unable to raise the needed funds within the stipulated time frame always end up feeling dejected and academically demoralized.

As a teacher, developing positive teacher-student relationships and designing lessons that cater to the diverse needs of all students will reduce personal bias thereby motivating all students to learn. Having insight and understanding of cultural, academic, ethnic, and economic diversities of children will enable a teacher to offer personalized learning that addresses the learning styles, multiple intelligences, and educational needs of all students. Individualized teaching will increase classroom interaction and ensure that students fully exploit their academic potential. Adopting inclusive education will also ensure that discrimination and personal bias is prevented. Inclusive education will ensure that parents, teachers, social workers, special educators, and students work together in designing, delivery, and monitoring of education. Each party will, therefore, share collective responsibility in ensuring that anti-discrimination measures put in place are strictly followed. Inclusive education also involves adopting a curriculum that uses locally relevant themes instead of binary narratives of good and evil that discriminates against marginalized or minority student groups.
