Purpose
The main purpose of Shaver & Mikulincer (2013) study was to have an understanding of the connections between personality development and attachment, in particular the understanding of Five-Factor Model of personality, between middle childhood to young adulthood.
Research Hypothesis
Here is the research hypothesis:
H0: There is a concurrent relationship between personality and attachment
H1: There is no c oncurrent relationship between personality and attachment
Research Variables
The main research variables are personality traits and attachment.
Earlier Research Studies
There are numerous controversies about the number ( Eysenck, 1991), definition (Zuckerman et al., 1993) and stability (Pervin, 1994) of such traits and whether the concept of the trait is to be understood as exemplary (McCrae & Costa, 2008) or as just being descriptive (Pervin, 1994; Hogan & DeSoto, 1977).
Factor analysis of teachers and parents rating of the personality of the children have offered support to the FFM also in childhood, even though the openness evidence is not strong (Lamb et al., 2002).
Research Design
This is correlational research design. In their study, Paulhus et al., (1999) were primarily interested in understanding the relationships between different variables. The scholars conducted three experiments, with each experiment looking to understand the relations between different birth order and personality trait variables.
Research Ethics
In my opinion, this study was conducted ethically. My justification for this decision is that the author has used lots of external information to validate his study, and they have successfully referenced the borrowed content. Credit has been given to the earlier research studies and authors where necessary.
