Article I: The Impact of Social Media on Society by Jacob Amedie, Santa Clara University.

Article II: The international journal of scientific and research publication.

Author: Trisha Dowerah Baruah

Article I

This article talks about the impact of social media as a tool for communication in the society. According to Jacob, social media has become a significant platform for exchanging information among communities and schools. The use of Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp and Instagram has been on the rise for the last two years. The majority of the population involved in the social media are youths aged between 15 years to 35 years. Having considered that the use of social media as a communication tool has risen uncontrollably, Jacob in his article focuses much on the negative impacts of social media to users. He describes the following as the significant adverse effects of social media on schools and the society as a whole.

Facebook depression: Jacob defines Facebook depression as the stress that is caused when one spends too much time on social media platforms such as Facebook ( Xiang, et al., 2010) . The article suggests that regulating social media use among children can help control such issues as Facebook depression.

Social media anxiety and stress: chronic stress and depression can result from overuse of social media. Jacob suggests that spending too much time on social is addictive, making the user go through stress.

Erosion of societal ethics: Jacob argues that social media has led to the erosion of the social ethics through the spread of pornographic materials among the youth in the social media. It has led to the loss of morals and ethical behavior in the society.

While understanding that social media has helped connected homes, schools, and society at large, he based his discussion more on the negative impacts of social media than the positive effects.

Article II

In this article, Trisha Dowerah Baruah researched to analyze the impact of social media as a tool of interaction and assess its usefulness as a tool for socializing. Unlike in the first article where the author focused majorly on the negativity of social media, this article takes a broader view by including its usefulness as a tool in connecting homes. In another difference with the first article, this article covered the topic of social media broadly by starting with the history and origin of social media. Among the benefits of social media in connecting people include an easy transfer of information, improved communication among parties, less time consumption and cost-effective ( Wang, et al., 2012).

While both articles take a look at the negative impacts of social media on the users, article II takes an elaborate view by identifying the effect and proposals of the mechanisms to solve it.

Based on the professional standards of the articles, article II applies more professional standards of an article than article I. it fooled the full format of a research paper with well-elaborated literature review and research methodology. Article I uses summarization in most of its points unlike in article II where each point has a detailed explanation. In article II, the introduction of the paper is flowing from one point to another giving the reader a view of what is covered in the paper. Also, the logistical arrangement of thoughts and ideas in article II has consistency and flow from one point to another. It enables the reader to understand and follow every idea quickly. In their conclusion, article II gives a concrete summery that covers up all that was discussed in the paper unlike article I where the summery is not so conclusive.
